Massive Copyright Crackdown: Police Raid 7 Resorts in Silvassa & Daman, FIRs Registered for Music License Violations

n a major enforcement drive, the Crime Branch of Daman Police has launched a stringent crackdown on copyright violations, raiding seven prominent resorts across Silvassa and Daman for allegedly playing copyrighted music without proper licensing.

The resorts under investigation include:

  • Devika Beach Resort, Daman

  • Hotel Cidade De Daman Beach Resort, Daman

  • Treat Resort, Silvassa

  • Khanvel Resort, Silvassa

  • Ras Resort by Treat, Silvassa

  • Pluz Resort, Silvassa

  • Pearl Resort, Silvassa

The FIRs were registered following a formal complaint by Novex Communications Pvt. Ltd., a licensed music rights agency. The complaint alleges unauthorized use of copyrighted songs, leading to substantial losses to the music industry and potential revenue leakage for the government.

Police have invoked relevant sections of the Copyright Act, 1957, and the newly implemented Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. Resort owners, directors, and managers are now facing serious legal consequences, with charges of intellectual property theft.

During the raids, police reportedly seized incriminating evidence, including audio recordings and surveillance footage. The investigation is ongoing and is being pursued with high priority and legal precision.

According to officials, this operation exposes a broader malpractice within the hospitality sector, where commercial entities use protected content without proper authorization.

"This is a clear message — copyright infringement will not be tolerated. We are committed to protecting the rights of content creators and upholding the law," said a senior police officer involved in the case.

This decisive move by law enforcement marks a significant step in upholding intellectual property rights and sends a strong warning to businesses ignoring music licensing regulations.
