The month of May begins with contrasting weather across India—while some regions face intense heatwaves, others are seeing rain and thunderstorms. A yellow alert has been issued for several states including Delhi, warning of possible lightning and strong winds.

There is a possibility of rain in the beginning of May, for which the Meteorological Department has issued an alert in many states. Rains with thunderstorms are expected in the capital Delhi for the next 5 days. Apart from this, May is also likely to begin with rain in Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana and Chandigarh. A warning of strong winds has been issued in Uttarakhand during this period.

There is a possibility of light rain with lightning and strong winds at the speed of 40-50 km per hour in Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, West Bengal, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh during May 1 to 3. There is a possibility of thunderstorms at different places in Jharkhand on May 01. Along with this, hailstorms are also likely at different places in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh on May 1.

In the next six days, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal are likely to receive rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds. Light rain accompanied by thunderstorms may occur in Karnataka between May 1 and 4. Apart from this, there is a possibility of rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in Northeast India in the next five days.

Possibility of hailstorm in Uttarakhand

Light hailstorm is expected in Nagaland and Manipur on May 01. Meanwhile, strong winds may blow in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand between May 01 and 06.
