Monsoon Fury: 34 Dead in North-East Floods and Landslides, Army and Air Force Join Rescue Efforts

Monsoon has become active in many states of the country. Along with this, heavy rains are occurring in many states of the country. Rain is wreaking havoc in the North-East. With the arrival of monsoon in the northeastern states, the process of devastation has started. After heavy rains, floods and landslides have caused heavy damage to the infrastructure from Assam to Arunachal Pradesh. At least 34 people have died due to floods and landslides caused by heavy rains in the northeastern states of the country in the last three days. Indian Army, Air Force and Assam Rifles have been deployed for relief and rescue in Assam, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh.
764 villages in 19 districts of Assam have been flooded. About 3.6 lakh people of the state have been affected. With the death of 2 more people on Sunday, the death toll from flood-landslides in the state has risen to 10. More than 10 thousand people are affected in Tripura. More than a thousand tourists are stranded in Lachen and Lachung in Mangan district of Sikkim since May 30.Officials said on Sunday that due to continuous rains, there was heavy waterlogging in Tripura, due to which a person died after falling into a manhole. About 200 mm of rain has been recorded in the capital Agartala in just three hours. Normal life was affected due to heavy rains in the city, many low-lying areas were submerged and people were seen walking in knee-deep water in front of Chief Minister Manik Saha's residence.
Due to torrential rains in the last 24 hours, three districts of Tripura - West Tripura, Unakoti and North Tripura were flooded. 10,600 members of 2,800 families inundated by floodwaters have been evacuated and shifted to 60 relief camps across the state. 14 teams are engaged in the rescue operation.
Rain wreaks havoc in Manipur
Floods and landslides following rains in Manipur have affected 3,802 people across the state in the last 48 hours. 883 houses have been damaged. Officials said that many areas of the state capital Imphal and parts of Imphal East district have been inundated after the overflowing river broke embankments and overflowed in Khurai, Hingang and Chekone areas. Waterlogging was reported in the premises of several offices, health facilities and establishments, including All India Radio Imphal Complex and the government Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, after the Imphal river overflowed in the Chekone area.
Road collapses due to rain in Nagaland
A major road collapse incident occurred on National Highway-2 on Kohima-Mao road near Phessama in Nagaland, due to which the affected route is completely closed. The incident occurred in the morning due to continuous rain for the last several days. The road has collapsed by about 4 feet.
