Monsoon Havoc in Himachal: 39 Dead, 285 Roads Blocked

Heavy monsoon rains have claimed 39 lives in Himachal Pradesh, triggering massive landslides and floods.

Life has been disrupted due to heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh. According to the data released by the State Emergency Operations Center, 39 people have died in Himachal from the arrival of monsoon on June 20 to the evening of June 29. 4 people are missing, while 81 people are injured. 3 have lost their lives in the last 24 hours. Due to landslides, vehicular movement has stopped on 285 roads across the state.

This includes figures of snake bites, drowning, road accidents, as well as people swept away in water. 20 people have died due to monsoon, while 19 have died in various accidents.

Heavy rains have caused a loss of Rs 7,540.09 lakh in the state from June 20 to June 29. The Public Works Department (PWD) has suffered the most loss of Rs 3472.7 lakh while the Jal Shakti Department has suffered a loss of Rs 3856.56 lakh. 8 houses have been completely destroyed while 13 have been damaged. Water has also swept away 8 shops and 12 cowsheds. 40 animals and birds have also been swept away.

285 roads across the state have been closed for traffic. Along with this, 612 electricity transformers and 100 drinking water schemes have been affected. The maximum number of roads in the state are closed in Sirmaur (57) and Mandi (44). While Mandi has the maximum number of 340 electricity transformers closed.

According to the Meteorological Department, it will rain in 31 states and union territories today. A red alert has been issued in Uttarakhand and Jharkhand. Orange alert for heavy rain has been issued in 12 states including Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan and yellow alert in 17 states.
