Monsoon activity intensified across large parts of the country on Friday, bringing heavy rainfall, flooding, and rising river levels in several states. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a massive cloud band stretching nearly 7,000–10,000 kilometres from western India across the Himalayas to China and South Korea is driving widespread rainfall. The latest India Monsoon Update indicates flood-like conditions in Gujarat and Assam, swollen rivers in Uttar Pradesh, and heavy rain alerts for multiple states over the next two days.

Flood Situation In Gujarat

Heavy rainfall caused severe flooding in several districts of south Gujarat, disrupting normal life and affecting transport and residential areas.

Among the worst-hit regions, Umargam taluka recorded nearly 43 inches of rainfall within 16 hours, leading to extensive waterlogging and inundation of low-lying localities. Houses in several areas were partially submerged as floodwaters entered residential neighbourhoods.

The IMD has issued a heavy rainfall alert for 11 districts of Gujarat, warning of continued intense showers.

Assam Flood Crisis Continues

Flood conditions remained critical in Assam, where around 6.53 lakh people have been affected across multiple districts.

Rescue operations continued throughout the day, with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescuing 67 people, including 25 women and 22 children, from flood-hit Sarikhurad village in Navsari.

Authorities are continuing relief and rehabilitation efforts in the affected regions.

Rivers Swell In Uttar Pradesh

Continuous rainfall over the past ten days has significantly increased water levels in several rivers across Uttar Pradesh.

According to officials, 10 rivers, including the Ganga and Yamuna, are flowing above normal levels. Rising water in the Sharda River has inundated villages in Lakhimpur Kheri, cutting off road connectivity and leaving several settlements isolated.

The weather department has forecast light rainfall in 54 districts of the state on Friday.

Weather Alerts Across States

The IMD has issued multiple weather warnings as active monsoon conditions persist across northern, central, and northeastern India.

An orange alert has been issued for nine districts in Bihar, while Rajasthan remains under a statewide rain alert for the next two days.

Heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Nagaland, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, and Arunachal Pradesh.

Lightning Claims Lives

In Madhya Pradesh, intermittent rainfall continued across several districts over the past 24 hours.

Two people lost their lives after being struck by lightning in Vijaypura village of Shivpuri district on Thursday. Authorities have urged residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms and avoid open areas when lightning activity is reported.

Forecast For July 25–26

The IMD has forecast widespread heavy rainfall for July 25 in several northern and central Indian states.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, while East Rajasthan may also witness similar weather conditions.

For July 26, yellow rain alerts have been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Central Maharashtra, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Sikkim, and West Bengal.

Strong winds are also expected over Karnataka, Telangana, and Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Public Advisory

Authorities have advised residents in flood-prone and heavy rainfall areas to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow instructions issued by local administrations.

People living near rivers and low-lying areas have been asked to monitor official weather bulletins and evacuation advisories, as rainfall intensity may continue over the coming days.
