New Electric bus service for school children started in Delhi

Delhi government has launched a new eco-friendly electric bus service to ensure safe, comfortable, and pollution-free travel for school children.

Delhi's Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena (Vinay Saxena) and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta (Rekha Gupta) flagged off 24 electric buses from Sardar Patel School located in Lodhi Estate. These buses will be run to bring and take school children. For the first time, Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has provided new air conditioned low floor electric buses to a school management at a fixed fee under its Special Hire Service. Earlier, DTC used to provide only non-AC buses for school children.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that it is the government's goal to provide electric buses to all schools in Delhi. She said that this initiative will not only ensure safe transportation of students, but will also contribute to improving the air quality of the capital. At the same time, Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena, calling it an effective step against pollution, said that the objective is that children travel in pollution-free buses and remain mentally and physically healthy.

On this occasion, LG Vinay Kumar Saxena said that about 1200 students will be able to travel daily by these electric buses, which will reduce the burden of about 400 to 500 private vehicles from the roads. This will provide relief from both pollution and traffic. He further said that Delhi is in safe hands under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and in the coming two to three years, many such changes will be seen, which were being awaited for a long time.

In the program, Transport Minister Dr. Pankaj Singh said that there are sufficient number of e-buses in Delhi. He told that electric school bus service has been started as a pilot project from Sardar Patel Vidyalaya and very soon another school will also be included in this project.
