Nikhil Bothra Creates History: First Motorcyclist to Receive Desh Ratna Award

Renowned Indian motorcyclist, national record holder, and social riding advocate Nikhil Bothra was conferred with the prestigious Desh Ratna Award on 23rd December 2025, becoming the first motorcyclist in India to receive the Desh Ratna Award for a motorcycle expedition of national significance.

Nikhil Bothra also achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first person to draw the map of India on a motorcycle, symbolically tracing the nation’s geographical outline through a single continuous ride. This unique accomplishment transformed the journey into a living representation of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat, blending physical endurance with national symbolism.

His solo motorcycle expedition, titled “Mitti Se Moksha Tak – Ek Bharat, Ek Safar,” covered over 24,000 kilometers across India, connecting Indian state capitals, Union Territories, the four Char Dhams, and the twelve Jyotirlingas. The route was consciously designed to reflect India’s cultural, spiritual, and geographical unity, making the ride both a logistical and philosophical achievement.

The Desh Ratna Award is presented to individuals who make exceptional contributions toward national pride and social upliftment. Nikhil’s ride was recognized for its powerful social impact, including campaigns on road safety awareness, anti-drug and alcohol abuse, environmental responsibility, and disciplined riding practices. Throughout the journey, he engaged with local communities, youth groups, and fellow riders to spread awareness and inspire responsible citizenship.

A defining element of the expedition was its spiritual depth. By visiting sacred sites such as Kedarnath, Somnath, Kashi Vishwanath, Rameshwaram, and other Jyotirlingas, Nikhil emphasized inner transformation alongside physical endurance. He also advocated preserving the sanctity of religious places by encouraging traditional attire and mindful conduct.

Originally from Sardarshahar, Churu district, Rajasthan, and currently residing in Assam, Nikhil Bothra is an India Book of Records holder and the founder of the Throttle N Explore biking community, which promotes safe, united, and purposeful exploration among motorcyclists. His earlier achievements include endurance record rides and service-oriented initiatives in association with law enforcement and social departments.

Speaking after receiving the award, Nikhil Bothra said,
“Creating India’s map on a motorcycle and receiving the Desh Ratna Award is not a personal victory, but a tribute to the spirit of Bharat. ‘Mitti Se Moksha Tak’ was a journey of responsibility, devotion, and unity. This honor belongs to every Indian road and every Indian soul that shaped this ride.”

By becoming the first motorcyclist to receive the Desh Ratna Award and the first rider to draw India’s map through a motorcycle expedition, Nikhil Bothra has set a new benchmark in purposeful adventure travel, inspiring youth to view riding not merely as sport, but as a medium for nation-building
