Opposition Leader Claims ‘Udaipur Files’ Will Expose Major Case, Sparks Political Row

Political tensions intensified in Udaipur after Rajasthan’s Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully claimed that documents he called the “Udaipur Files” would soon surface and expose a major case allegedly linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party. His remarks, made in Jaipur on Wednesday, have triggered sharp political reactions and renewed scrutiny of an ongoing criminal investigation.

Jully’s statement relates to a high-profile case in which a woman political worker has accused a lawyer of blackmail and rape, alleging that an objectionable video of her was created using artificial intelligence tools. Police confirmed that a complaint was filed on February 11 under provisions of the Information Technology Act and that the accused advocate has since been arrested from his residence. Investigators say the complainant had worked as a junior in the lawyer’s office for about a year and was frequently taken along to client meetings.

Addressing reporters, Jully said he expected to receive the so-called files soon and suggested they would reveal serious wrongdoing. He did not present evidence but questioned the fairness of the police probe and called for transparency. Leaders of the Indian National Congress staged a protest outside the district collectorate the same day, demanding a high-level, impartial investigation by a central agency and action against any officials found complicit.

The controversy deepened after the accused lawyer’s family met Gulabchand Kataria, governor of Punjab, at the Circuit House in Udaipur earlier this month. They alleged that police personnel vandalized their home and mistreated women in the family, claiming the actions were carried out under political pressure. Authorities have not publicly responded to those allegations.

District Congress president Fateh Singh Rathore said the incident has created fear among residents and accused “anti-social elements” of damaging property in the presence of police. He urged a comprehensive inquiry to restore public confidence.

Police officials maintain that the investigation is proceeding according to law and that evidence is being examined, including digital material linked to the complaint. They have not commented on political claims surrounding the case.

The episode has quickly escalated into a political flashpoint, with rival parties trading accusations while investigators continue their work. Analysts say the dispute could intensify in the coming days if new documents or evidence are made public, potentially widening the political fallout beyond Udaipur.
