The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday published draft electoral rolls following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise in West Bengal, Rajasthan and Puducherry, leading to the exclusion of more than one crore voter names across the three regions.
According to official data, 58.20 lakh names have been dropped from West Bengal’s draft voter list, while Rajasthan saw the deletion of 41.85 lakh voters. In Puducherry, around 85,000 names were removed during the revision process. The ECI said the publication of the draft rolls marks the completion of the data collection phase of the SIR.
Election officials clarified that deletions were carried out after field verification and were primarily due to death, permanent migration, duplication, prolonged absence or cases where voters were already enrolled in other constituencies. In Rajasthan, Chief Electoral Officer Naveen Mahajan said no individual notices would be issued to those whose names have been deleted, but eligible voters could file claims with supporting documents during the objection period.
In Puducherry, the revision also led to administrative changes, including the addition of 110 new polling stations. Following the update, the total electorate in the Union Territory now stands at 7.64 lakh voters.
The Election Commission has opened the window for claims, objections and hearings, allowing citizens to seek corrections or restoration of their names. Voters can verify their details and EPIC numbers on the official ECI portals and submit applications through Form-6, either online or via Booth Level Officers and local election offices.
The second phase of the SIR will continue until February 2026, with the final electoral rolls scheduled for publication on February 14, 2026. Draft rolls for Goa and Lakshadweep are also being released as part of the ongoing revision.
The SIR exercise, which began on October 28, is currently underway in 12 states and Union Territories. The ECI has urged voters to promptly verify their status to ensure inclusion in the final rolls ahead of future elections.
