PM Modi Calls CM Bhagwant Man On Punjab Flood: PM Narendra Modi has returned to India on Monday after attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit held in Tianjin, China. As soon as he returned to India from China, PM Modi first called Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. During this, he discussed the situation arising out of the floods in Punjab. He assured all possible help and support to the state.
Actually Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had written a letter to Prime Minister Modi (CM Bhagwant Mann wrote a letter to PM Modi). In the letter, he had demanded immediate release of pending funds of Rs 60,000 crore from the Center in view of the floods in the state. He also appealed for amendment in the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), so that the affected farmers can be given compensation of at least Rs 50,000 per acre.
In the letter, the Chief Minister also informed that the Central Government has recently canceled projects worth Rs 828 crore of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Punjab, which may affect the rural connectivity of the state. The Chief Minister has drawn central attention to this subject and has demanded revival of the affected projects.
On returning to India from China, PM Modi first called Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. He inquired about the situation of flood-hit Punjab from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Also assured all possible help.
1,044 villages affected by floods
1,044 villages have been affected by the floods. A total of 2,56,107 people are affected by this disaster, of which Amritsar (35,000) and Ferozepur (24,015) are the most affected. About 96,061 hectares of agricultural land has been affected by the floods. Livestock has also suffered heavy losses. However, the exact figures will be known only after the water recedes. The damage to the infrastructure will also be assessed later.
Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers in spate in Punjab
Let us tell you that due to heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir, Sutlej, Beas and Ravi rivers are in spate in Punjab. Continuous rain in many parts of the state has made the situation more serious. So far 15,688 people have been evacuated to safer places in Punjab. 5,549 people have been rescued in Gurdaspur, 3,321 in Ferozepur, 2,049 in Fazilka, 1,700 in Amritsar and 1,139 in Pathankot. NDRF, SDRF, Army and Police are engaged in relief work.

The Punjab government, NDRF, SDRF, Army and Punjab Police are engaged day and night in saving lives and property of the people. 20 teams of NDRF are deployed in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Ferozepur, Fazilka and Bathinda. The state government has assured all possible relief and assistance to the affected people.
