PM Modi inaugurates Seva Teerth new PMO in Delhi, inscribed with 'Nagrik Devo Bhava'. Last Cabinet meeting at old South Block today amid Central Vista revamp.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated the Seva Teerth new PMO complex, signaling a bold shift from colonial symbols to modern, citizen-centric governance. The event marks the end of nearly 78 years of the PMO operating from South Block, with the last Union Cabinet meeting set for 4 PM at the historic British-era building.
Grand Unveiling of Seva Teerth
PM Modi unveiled the plaque at Seva Teerth, located on Dara Shikoh Road. The wall proudly bears "Seva Teerth" in Devanagari script and the mantra "Nagrik Devo Bhava" (Citizens are like God) below it. Built by L&T at ₹1,189 crore over 5 acres, the complex houses three key buildings:
-
Seva Teerth-1: Prime Minister's Office (PMO), shifting today from South Block.
-
Seva Teerth-2: Cabinet Secretariat (moved in September 2025).
-
Seva Teerth-3: National Security Council Secretariat and NSA Ajit Doval's office.
This consolidation ends scattered operations, boosting efficiency. PM Modi will address a public event from the new PM Modi Seva Teerth setup later today.
Part of Ambitious Central Vista Project
Seva Teerth new PMO is a cornerstone of the Central Vista Project, alongside Kartavya Bhawan-1, 2, and 3, new Parliament, and Kartavya Path. These modern hubs now host major ministries like Finance, Defence, Health, Education, and more—relocated from aging Lutyens' Delhi structures.
Key highlights:
-
Home Ministry moved to Common Central Secretariat (CCS) on Janpath with 347 rooms.
-
Kartavya Bhawan buildings feature digital offices, citizen interaction spaces, and 4-star GRIHA green standards (renewable energy, water conservation).
-
Advanced security: Smart access, surveillance, and emergency systems.
PM Modi inaugurated Kartavya Bhawan-3 on August 6, 2025, housing Home, External Affairs, and other ministries.
Why This Matters Now
In 2026, as India pushes 'Viksit Bharat', the South Block shift symbolizes shedding colonial baggage since 2014 under Modi. Old buildings like North and South Blocks face high maintenance costs and delays—now slated for 'Yuge-Yugen Bharat National Museum' with 25,000+ artifacts. A new PM residence is also under construction nearby.
Experts like Dr. Jitendra Singh hail it as a "service pilgrimage," enhancing coordination and public access. This timely revamp aligns with current trends in efficient, eco-friendly governance, reducing environmental impact while prioritizing citizens.
The move promises smoother policy-making and better service delivery. As Seva Teerth opens, India steps into a future-ready administrative era.
