At a significant press conference held at the Press Club in the national capital, Kalpana Inamdar, Working President of Lokandolan Nyas, expressed deep concern over the current global situation and rising inflation in India, urging the central government to take immediate and concrete steps in the interest of the public.
Addressing journalists, she informed that the organization has submitted a detailed representation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, appealing for India to play a proactive role as a mediator in easing global tensions. She emphasized that India, given its balanced diplomatic relations, is in a unique position to facilitate dialogue and promote peace on the international stage.
Speaking on the issue of inflation, Inamdar highlighted the dual crisis faced by common citizens today. “On one hand, there are global war-like situations, and on the other, there is relentless inflation within the country. Both are putting immense pressure on ordinary households,” she said.
She pointed out that the rising prices of petrol, diesel, and LPG have had a cascading effect on the economy. Increased fuel costs have pushed up transportation expenses, which in turn have made essential commodities, including food items, more expensive. “When fuel prices rise, the cost of moving goods from farms to markets increases, and ultimately, it is the common consumer who bears the burden,” she noted.
Inamdar also raised concerns over the high tax component in fuel prices, stating that a significant portion—nearly 40% to 50%—comes from taxes. She argued that reducing these taxes could provide immediate relief to the public. Additionally, she called for the reintroduction of subsidies on LPG cylinders to ease the financial strain on households.
Touching upon global developments, Kalpana Inamdar referred to the escalating tensions among Iran, Israel, and the United States, noting that these are no longer distant geopolitical issues but have direct implications for India’s economy and citizens. She reiterated that India’s balanced ties with all three nations place it in a credible position to act as a mediator.
“The world today needs dialogue, not weapons,” she said, stressing that if India steps forward to facilitate peace, it could not only contribute to global stability but also positively impact domestic economic conditions, particularly fuel prices and inflation.
During the press conference, the organization outlined five key demands before the government. These include India taking on the role of a neutral and active mediator globally, intensifying diplomatic efforts to reduce conflicts, immediate reduction in petrol and diesel prices, reintroduction of LPG subsidies, and coordinated policy action by both central and state governments to control inflation.
Inamdar described the current situation as not merely an economic crisis but a humanitarian one. “When a daily wage worker struggles to feed his family, and a middle-class household is unable to save for the future of their children, it goes beyond statistics—it becomes a matter of survival,” she remarked.
Concluding the press conference, Kalpana Inamdar urged the central government to rise above political considerations and take swift, people-centric decisions. She emphasized that this is a crucial moment for India to act decisively, both in providing relief to its citizens and in playing a constructive role in establishing global peace.
The developments highlighted during the press conference underline a growing concern that issues like inflation and global instability are no longer abstract policy debates but real challenges affecting everyday life. The onus now lies on policymakers to respond effectively and responsibly.
