Punjab Politics Shaken: Janata Party Chief Navneet Chaturvedi Files Rajya Sabha Nomination with Backing from 10 AAP MLAs

Punjab’s political scene experienced an unexpected jolt on Monday as Navneet Chaturvedi, National President of the Janata Party, officially submitted his nomination for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections as an independent candidate.

Notably, his nomination came with the backing of ten legislators from the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), signaling potential fissures within the party.

Chaturvedi filed his nomination papers at the office of the Secretary of the Punjab Assembly, and they were formally accepted by the Returning Officer. The ten AAP MLAs who endorsed his candidature submitted the necessary forms, indicating cross-party support for Chaturvedi despite the ruling party’s official nominee being in the fray.

This development casts a shadow of uncertainty over the prospects of AAP’s official candidate, industrialist Rajinder Gupta, who had been widely considered the frontrunner for the Rajya Sabha seat. Political analysts suggest that Chaturvedi’s entry, backed by dissenting voices within the ruling party, could alter election dynamics and reshape alliances ahead of the vote.

Navneet Chaturvedi is scheduled to address the media tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Chandigarh Press Club, where he is expected to provide a detailed account of his nomination, outline his strategy, and comment on the broader implications for Punjab’s political landscape.

This unexpected move has already sparked intense debate among political observers, with speculation mounting about the impact on party unity and the overall outcome of the Rajya Sabha elections in the state.
