RJD leader shot dead during attack on Jan Suraaj candidate’s convoy in Mokam

A violent attack in Mokama on Thursday (October 30) left RJD leader Dularchand Yadav dead after unidentified assailants opened fire on the convoy of Jan Suraaj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi. Yadav, who was accompanying Priyadarshi for campaign activities, succumbed to gunshot injuries during the ambush in Ghoswari.

According to Jan Suraaj leaders, Priyadarshi’s convoy was following the vehicle of Anant Singh when the attack occurred. They alleged that Anant Singh’s supporters suddenly emerged from their vehicles and began assaulting them with sticks, rods, and firearms. Several vehicles were damaged during the incident.

Local Jan Suraaj member Govind said, “Our convoy of 10 vehicles was behind Piyush Priyadarshi. As we crossed paths with Anant Singh’s convoy, his supporters attacked and smashed our vehicles.”

Later, former MLA Anant Singh accused Surajbhan Singh of orchestrating the attack, denying any involvement in the violence himself.

Political tensions rise amid Bihar campaign

The incident comes amid a tense political climate in Bihar, with multiple controversies unfolding during the ongoing Assembly election campaign.

The BJP on Thursday lodged a complaint with Bihar’s Chief Electoral Officer against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Prime Minister Narendra Modi during rallies in Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga. Gandhi had said, “Before elections, if you ask Modi, he will dance to win votes,” a comment the BJP described as indecent and personal.

Union Minister Amit Shah hit back during a rally in Lakhisarai, accusing Gandhi of insulting Chhath Maiya and disrespecting PM Modi’s mother. He said the NDA would “secure a decisive victory” in the upcoming polls.

Meanwhile, Union Minister Annapurna Devi also criticised Rahul Gandhi, saying he “insults India abroad” and that “Bihar’s people will give a fitting reply to his arrogance.”

Other election developments

  • RJD leader Tej Pratap Yadav faced protests during a campaign in Mahnar, where stones were allegedly pelted at his convoy.

  • PM Narendra Modi claimed at a Muzaffarpur rally that RJD and Congress are heading for their biggest-ever defeat, while BJP chief JP Nadda urged voters to “continue Bihar’s development under Nitish Kumar.”

  • Rahul Gandhi, campaigning in multiple constituencies, criticised the NDA government for favouring billionaires and neglecting Bihar’s education and health sectors.

  • Rabri Devi reiterated that Tejashwi Yadav would be the “next Chief Minister of Bihar,” while Chirag Paswan called the ongoing elections the start of a “golden era” for the state.

The Bhojpur district also witnessed an emergency landing of Brijbhushan Sharan Singh’s helicopter while he was en route to address a rally for the NDA’s JDU candidate, though no injuries were reported.

The murder of Dularchand Yadav has intensified the already volatile political atmosphere in Bihar, with police launching an investigation into the Mokama convoy attack amid growing calls for accountability from all parties
