Security Forces Foil Infiltration Attempt Along LoC in J&K’s Keran Sector, Two Terrorists Killed

Security forces on Saturday thwarted an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Keran sector of Kupwara district, killing two terrorists during an intense exchange of fire. The operation, codenamed ‘Operation Pimple’, was launched after intelligence inputs indicated that a group of armed infiltrators was attempting to cross from Pakistan-occupied territory into India.

According to the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, the terrorists opened indiscriminate fire on the search parties, prompting retaliatory action. “Two terrorists were neutralised in the ensuing encounter. The operation is still in progress,” the Army said in an official statement on social media platform X. Security forces have recovered weapons and ammunition from the site, while search and sanitisation operations continue in the dense forest area.

This marks another successful counter-infiltration action along the LoC in recent weeks. On 13 October, security forces had killed two infiltrators in the Kumbakdi forests of Kupwara during a similar attempt to breach the border. Earlier, on 5 November, an encounter broke out in Kishtwar’s Chhatru area, where joint teams of the Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police engaged terrorists hiding in the rugged terrain.

The latest incident underscores sustained efforts by Pakistani-based terror groups to push militants across the LoC before the onset of winter, when heavy snowfall blocks traditional infiltration routes.

Security officials said the ongoing operations are part of a broader counter-terror grid aimed at preventing cross-border movement and neutralising sleeper cells active in north Kashmir. Additional reinforcements have been deployed to seal vulnerable infiltration points across the sector.

Authorities have maintained a heightened alert across border districts, anticipating further infiltration attempts as militant groups seek to disrupt peace in the region.
