Now the Supreme Court will work at full capacity, three new judges joined

The Supreme Court reaches full capacity as three new judges join its bench. Justice Vijay Vishnoi made history by taking the oath in Hindi, emphasizing inclusivity and linguistic representation in the judiciary.

The Supreme Court, which is used to speaking and listening to English, used Hindi on Friday. Newly appointed Supreme Court judge Vijay Bishnoi took oath in Hindi. Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court Vijay Bishnoi took oath as Supreme Court judge in Hindi on Friday.

Justice Bishnoi has come to Supreme Court after being promoted from the post of Chief Justice of Guwahati High Court but he is originally from Rajasthan and Rajasthan High Court is his original High Court. Rajasthan is a Hindi speaking state. Justice Vijay Bishnoi was sworn in by Chief Justice (CJI) BR Gavai and Justice Gavai also took oath as CJI in Hindi on 14 May.

Three new judges took oath

Three new judges Justice NV Anjaria, Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Justice Atul S Chandurkar took oath as Supreme Court judges on Friday. CJI BR Gavai administered the oath of office to all three judges. Two of the three judges NV Anjaria and Atul S Chandurkar took oath in English while Justice Vijay Bishnoi took oath in Hindi.

After the three new judges took charge, the total number of judges in the Supreme Court has increased to 34 which is the full functionality of the Supreme Court. The total sanctioned posts of judges in the Supreme Court including the CJI are 34. After the arrival of three new judges, no post of judge is vacant in the Supreme Court. However, Justice Bela Trivedi will retire on June 9 and after that one vacancy will again occur.

The posts were vacant after the retirement of three judges

Former Chief Justice Sanjeev Khanna, Justice Abhay S. After the retirement of Oka and Justice Hrishikesh Roy, three posts of judges in the Supreme Court became vacant. To fill these posts, a five-member Supreme Court Collegium headed by Chief Justice BR Gavai met on May 26 in which the Collegium recommended the elevation of Karnataka High Court Chief Justice NV Anjaria, Guwahati High Court Chief Justice Vijay Bishnoi and Bombay High Court Judge Atul S Chandurkar as judges in the Supreme Court.
