Tamil Nadu’s CP Radhakrishnan becomes India’s 15th Vice President

Senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu, CP Radhakrishnan, has been announced as the 15th Vice President of India. A two-time MP and former state BJP chief, he is known for his grassroots connect and long political career dedicated to the party.

The results of the Vice Presidential election have come. In this election, NDA candidate CP Radhakrishnan has won by a huge margin. He has defeated INDIA alliance candidate Sudarshan Reddy by 152 votes. Let us tell you that CP Radhakrishnan got a total of 452 votes in this election while India alliance candidate Sudarshan Reddy got only 300 votes.

On July 21, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned from the post of Vice President citing ill health. After which CP Radhakrishnan was declared the Vice President candidate in the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting. At the time his name was approved, he was the 24th Governor of Maharashtra. His supporters also address him as 'Modi of Tamil Nadu'. Now that he is going to become the new Vice President of India, it becomes necessary to look at his past as well.

CP Radhakrishnan is the former Governor of Maharashtra. He comes from Tamil Nadu. His full name is Chandrapuram Ponnuswamy Radhakrishnan. He has a deep connection with the Sangh and BJP. He has been the Governor of Maharashtra since 31 July 2024. His political career has spanned nearly 4 decades.

He was born on 20 October 1957 in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu. His father's name is CK Ponnusamy and mother's name is K Janaki Ammal.

What posts has Radhakrishnan held so far?

Before becoming the Governor of Maharashtra, he was the Governor of Jharkhand (18 February 2023-30 July 2024). He was also handling the responsibility of additional charge in Telangana from March to July 2024. At the same time, he worked as Lieutenant Governor (additional charge) in Puducherry till August 2024. He started his political career with RSS and Jansangh. He was elected MP from Coimbatore Lok Sabha constituency in 1998 and 1999. After this, he was also the Tamil Nadu BJP President from 2003 to 2006. CP Radhakrishnan has also played an important role in the BJP organization.
