Thackeray Brothers Unite After 20 Years for Marathi Rally

Raj and Uddhav Thackeray will share the stage after two decades in a joint rally focused on the Marathi language and identity. The rare political reunion has stirred public interest—know the full preparations and significance of the event.

The Thackeray brothers, Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, who separated two decades ago in Maharashtra politics, will gather on one stage today on Saturday. They are organizing Vijay Mahotsav to commemorate the return of the three-language policy in primary schools by the state government. The event will be held at the NSCI Dome in Mumbai, which is located in the assembly constituency of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aditya Thackeray. All eyes are on the possibilities of a new political equation due to this unity of the Thackeray brothers.

Raj had strongly opposed the decision to implement the three-language formula, as a result of which the Mahayuti government has decided to postpone this decision for the time being. On this occasion, a Vijay Sabha is being organized at the NSCI Dome in Worli at 10 am today to celebrate the victory of Marathi unity.

Appeal not to bring flag of any party in the rally

All Marathi lovers, litterateurs, writers, poets, teachers, editors and artists have been invited to participate in this festival. In particular, bringing the flag of any political party in this gathering has been prohibited, and leaders of all parties have been appealed to unite on the issue of Marathi identity.

In the last two decades, Uddhav and Raj Thackeray have faced many ups and downs in politics. The upcoming municipal elections have emerged as an existential challenge for them. In this context, the ruling party says that this unity is not only for the Marathi community, but is also part of the election strategy.

When did Raj-Uddhav Thackeray come together?

On 17 July 2012, Uddhav Thackeray was admitted to Lilavati Hospital due to chest pain.

On 10 January 2015, Raj Thackeray participated in the photo exhibition of Uddhav Thackeray at Jahangir Art Gallery.

On 12 December 2015, both the leaders were seen together on the stage on Sharad Pawar's Amrit Mahotsav birthday.

On 27 January 2019, Uddhav Thackeray attended the wedding of Raj Thackeray's son Amit Thackeray.

On 28 November 2019, Uddhav Thackeray took oath as the Chief Minister, in which Raj Thackeray was also present.

On 23 January 2021, both the leaders were together at the unveiling ceremony of Bala Saheb's full-figure statue.

On 22 December 2024, Uddhav Thackeray was present at the wedding of Raj Thackeray's sister Jayawanti Thackeray-Deshpande's son.

On 24 February 2025, Uddhav Thackeray also attended the wedding of a government official's son.

In fact, between 2014 and 2017, efforts for unity between Shiv Sena and MNS had increased, but it was not clear who would get whose support. MNS had also alleged that there was no proper response from Uddhav Thackeray. Currently, all eyes are on the possibility of some kind of reconciliation between the Thackeray brothers amid the political crisis so that they can maintain their political existence.
