Years of Abuse Alleged: Prayagraj Woman Files Formal Complaint Against Husband, Son and Relatives
Jagran Desk
A disturbing case of alleged domestic violence has surfaced in the George Town area of Prayagraj, where a homemaker and her daughter claim to have endured years of physical assault, intimidation, and emotional harassment at the hands of their own family members.
According to the woman’s statement, the most recent incidents occurred on August 11 and 13, 2025, when she was allegedly attacked inside her home by her husband, son, and other relatives. The woman has since approached the George Town police station and lodged a formal complaint. She also dialed the women’s helpline number 1076, seeking urgent intervention from the authorities.
Long-Standing Pattern of Violence
The accused husband has been identified as Dinesh Singh, a senior manager at the state-owned company SJVNL (Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited). The woman alleged that Singh has subjected her to repeated episodes of physical abuse and verbal threats for several years, often in the presence of other family members.
She further stated that despite earlier complaints to the police, no decisive action was taken. “The threats and beatings have been going on for years. Every time I tried to raise my voice, I was silenced by pressure from within the family,” she reportedly told officers.
Alleged Conspiracy Over Property
In her formal complaint, the victim went on to accuse her husband, his younger brother Amritesh Singh, and sister-in-law Shalini Singh of conspiring against her. She claimed that the trio repeatedly pressured her to give up her legal rights over her ancestral property.
According to her statement, they also demanded that she allow her husband to send money to them regularly. “This constant demand for property and money is the reason behind their hostility towards me,” the woman alleged.
Complaint and Police Involvement
With the situation allegedly worsening over the past few weeks, the woman finally decided to formally approach the police. Officers at George Town police station confirmed that a complaint has been registered and an inquiry is underway. Police sources said the matter involves both domestic violence and property disputes, and hence, it will be investigated under relevant legal provisions.
A Larger Social Concern
The case has once again highlighted the plight of women trapped in long-term abusive relationships, particularly when the abuser holds a position of social or financial authority. Activists in Prayagraj have pointed out that domestic violence cases are often underreported, either due to social stigma, family pressure, or fear of retaliation.
Despite legal safeguards such as the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, and the availability of women’s helpline services, victims often struggle for years before stepping forward. In this case, the victim claims that repeated police complaints in the past did not result in any meaningful action, forcing her to escalate the matter again in August 2025.
