AAP Rally in Morbi Turns Chaotic as Co-Incharge Resigns, Levels Corruption Allegations

A political rally organised by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Morbi descended into chaos on Sunday after the party’s local co-incharge, Hitubha Rathod, resigned publicly during the event, levelling serious allegations against his own organisation. The dramatic development unfolded at the Parivartan Sabha held at Bapa Sitaram Chowk on Ravapar Road, significantly overshadowing the party’s attempt to project unity and momentum ahead of upcoming local body elections.

The rally was attended by senior AAP leaders, including state president Isudan Gadhvi and Visavadar MLA Gopal Italia, who were addressing supporters on issues of governance and political change in Gujarat. However, proceedings were disrupted when Rathod, visibly agitated, announced his resignation from the stage area, alleging widespread corruption within the party.

Addressing party workers and attendees, Rathod claimed that corruption in AAP was “worse than the BJP” and accused the organisation of prioritising wealthy individuals over grassroots workers. He alleged that ordinary party members had no voice and appealed to the public not to associate with what he described as a “rich-centric party.” His remarks triggered loud commotion and sharp reactions among workers present at the venue.

Rathod also expressed anger over being allegedly prevented from going on stage. Referring to earlier controversial remarks made by AAP leaders against the police, he warned that such a mindset could lead to lawlessness if the party came to power. Declaring that he could not tolerate what he termed “internal dictatorship,” Rathod announced that he was severing all ties with AAP.

Outside the rally venue, the impact of the internal rebellion was clearly visible. Party scarves were found strewn across the road, and onlookers were heard making critical remarks, reflecting public surprise and discontent over the unfolding drama. The situation diverted attention from the rally’s original agenda, with internal dissent becoming the dominant topic of discussion.

Meanwhile, addressing the gathering, MLA Gopal Italia targeted the ruling BJP, alleging administrative failures and claiming that growing dissatisfaction among traders and industrialists would lead to political change. However, the public resignation and allegations from within the party raised questions about AAP’s internal cohesion and organisational discipline.

The Parivartan Sabha was intended to showcase AAP’s strength in Morbi and build confidence among workers ahead of elections. Instead, the episode exposed internal fractures that could pose challenges for the party’s political strategy in the region. As reactions continue to pour in, the incident is expected to intensify political debate in Morbi and beyond.
