TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee has alleged that his Kolkata office was attacked and vandalised, and sought judicial intervention while accusing authorities of failing to act. The allegations have triggered a fresh political confrontation in West Bengal.
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress (TMC) national general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Abhishek Banerjee has sought judicial intervention after alleging an attack and vandalism at the party office on Camac Street in Kolkata, describing the incident as an “open defiance of law”.
Banerjee alleged that the office was targeted by BJP workers and claimed that equipment was damaged and phones were taken away during the incident. He shared visuals related to the incident and demanded action against those responsible.
The TMC leader has also accused the authorities of failing to take timely action and said that the matter required intervention from the judiciary. His remarks came amid a political dispute between the TMC and BJP over the incident.
The BJP has rejected the allegations and questioned the claims made by the TMC leadership. The two parties have traded accusations over the developments surrounding the Camac Street office.
The controversy is linked to a dispute involving the TMC office on Camac Street, where a confrontation had earlier taken place during action related to an alleged unauthorised billboard. The matter led to police cases and investigation involving several TMC leaders and workers.
Police investigations are underway in connection with the allegations and counter-allegations. Earlier reports said cases were registered following the confrontation, with authorities examining the events surrounding the dispute.
The latest development adds to the ongoing political tension in West Bengal, with the TMC demanding accountability and the BJP disputing the charges levelled against its workers. Further legal and police action will determine the next course of the matter.
