Aditya Thackeray on Bakrid Row: Focus on Governance, Not Festival Bans
Addressing the ongoing Bakrid controversy, Aditya Thackeray criticized the government, stating, "Sometimes it's about saving water, sometimes colors; instead of banning festivals, focus on governance." His remarks underscore the need for a balanced approach toward cultural and environmental concerns.
The festival of Bakrid will be celebrated across the country on June 7, but before that political rhetoric has intensified on it. Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aditya Thackeray has given a big statement on the controversies related to Bakrid. Taking a tough stand on this issue, he has raised the question that why do governments appeal to save during every festival. Whereas people have every right to celebrate their festivals.
He said that he is also sensitive towards the environment, but amidst the constant appeals to save water, colours and other things, freedom to breathe is also important. Celebrating festivals is a personal right, it is not the work of the government. The main responsibility of the government is to help the farmers committing suicide, solve the problem of rain water and trace the terrorists who have come for protection. It is not the job of the government to interfere in the festivals.
The instructions of the Maharashtra Gauseva Commission have given rise to controversy in the context of Bakrid. The commission ordered the state's animal markets to remain closed from June 3 to 8, which caused discontent, especially in rural areas. Many political parties have met the Chief Minister and expressed their objection against this decision.
The festival of Bakrid will be celebrated across the country on June 7, but before that the announcement of the closure of markets has created a wave of concern among livestock owners and farmers. Opposition parties say that farmers take care of their animals for months for this festival, and in such a situation, the decision to suddenly close the market can create an economic crisis for them. It is noteworthy that the instructions of the Maharashtra Gauseva Commission have been withdrawn for the time being.
