Administration Begins Bulldozer Action on Homes of Stone-Pelters in Chomu, 19 Arrested So Far

The Jaipur district administration has intensified its crackdown against those accused in a stone-pelting incident in Chomu, with municipal authorities authorised to demolish illegal constructions linked to the accused after they failed to respond to official notices within the stipulated time. The action follows unrest triggered by a dispute over alleged encroachment near a mosque in the town.

According to officials, notices were pasted outside the houses of 24 identified stone-pelters, asking them to submit explanations or legal documents within three days. The deadline expired on December 31 without any response. As a result, the Chomu Municipal Council has been given the go-ahead to proceed with demolition and sealing operations wherever violations are confirmed.

Two companies of police personnel and the Rajasthan Armed Constabulary (RAC) have been deployed in the area to prevent any flare-up and maintain law and order. Senior officers said the situation remains under control, though security has been tightened as a precaution.

During a visit to Pathan Colony, where several of the accused reside, most houses were found locked. Notices were pasted on multiple homes and shops. At locations where residents were present, they declined to speak on record. Locals expressed mixed reactions—some supported strict action against those involved in violence, while others urged authorities to ensure that innocent families are not harassed.

Special Police Commissioner (Jaipur) Rahul Prakash said the investigation is progressing steadily. “So far, 19 accused have been arrested in connection with the stone-pelting. During interrogation, more names have surfaced. We are also examining video footage from the night of the incident to identify additional suspects,” he said. Police are verifying whether any of the accused are from outside Rajasthan and, if so, the purpose of their presence in Chomu.

Municipal officials clarified that the demolition drive is being carried out strictly under legal provisions. Sunil Kumar Swami, Assistant Accounts Officer of the Chomu Municipal Council, said notices were issued on December 29 concerning 20 illegal slaughterhouses and four other illegal constructions. “If valid documents are not produced or the structures are not removed voluntarily, the council will take action as per rules,” he said.

Authorities maintain that the action is aimed at enforcing municipal laws and deterring violence, not targeting any community. Further arrests and demolitions are expected as identification through CCTV footage and mobile videos continues.
