Avinash Pandey entrusted with Bihar strategy amid Congress infighting

Senior Congress leader Avinash Pandey has been tasked with overseeing organisational strategy for the upcoming Bihar elections. The move comes amid internal unrest over ticket allocations and poor state performance, including the loss of two sitting seats.

Pandey takes charge
On X, Pandey announced, “From tomorrow, I will be on a Bihar tour, taking charge of organisational coordination and strategy for the upcoming elections. This is not just an election but a decisive moment that will shape Bihar’s future.” He criticised the NDA government for driving unemployment, migration, and underdevelopment, and stated that Congress under Rahul Gandhi aims to reconnect with public aspirations. Pandey’s mission is to strengthen the party, motivate workers, and ensure electoral success in Bihar.

Experience in resolving internal disputes
Pandey has a track record of handling sensitive political situations. In 2019-20, he helped settle the high-profile feud between Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot and Deputy CM Sachin Pilot. Later, as Congress General Secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, he coordinated a strong alliance performance with the Samajwadi Party, limiting the BJP to 240 seats.

Background
A member of the Congress CWC from Nagpur, Maharashtra, Pandey is a noted lawyer and has served in the Maharashtra Legislative Council. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in 2010 and is considered a close and trusted aide of both Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi.

Challenges ahead
Bihar Congress faces internal tensions, with leaders and workers recently demanding the removal of state in-charge Krishna Allavaru and state president Rajesh Ram over ticket distribution disputes. Pandey now faces the task of managing these internal conflicts while steering the party toward a strong showing in the elections.
