Bihar Ministers Assume Charge; Tej Pratap Yadav Criticises Deepak Prakash’s Induction

Bihar’s newly appointed ministers have begun assuming charge of their respective departments, marking the formal commencement of their duties in the state government. On Monday, Surendra Mehta officially took over as Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, while Sanjay Singh Tiger assumed charge of the Labour Resources Department during the Shukra Hora muhurat, an auspicious time according to Hindu traditions.

Speaking after assuming office, Mehta said, “Under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, the Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Department will continue its efforts to improve the livelihoods of farmers, livestock rearers, and the fishing community.”

Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, along with ministers Nitin Naveen, Shravan Kumar, and Vijendra Prasad Yadav, is also set to take charge in the coming hours. Several ministers had assumed office on Saturday, though many delayed formal proceedings to align with an auspicious muhurat.

Meanwhile, political reactions followed the cabinet expansion. Tej Pratap Yadav criticised the induction of Deepak Prakash, Panchayati Raj Minister, stating, “Deepak Prakash, who acted as a counting agent for independent candidate Ramnarayan Paswan without contesting the election, is now a minister. Isn’t this Modi-Nitish magic?”

Deepak Prakash, son of Upendra Kushwaha, formally took charge of the Panchayati Raj Department wearing an off-white shirt, blue jeans, and crocs. On his first day, he requested water before addressing the media. Other ministers taking charge on Saturday included Ashok Chaudhary for the Rural Works Department and Shreyasi Singh for the IT Department.

Deputy CM Samrat Choudhary, speaking at the BJP office, emphasised his commitment to law and order. “Bihar has never tolerated anarchy. Under CM Nitish Kumar’s guidance, good governance will prevail, and criminals will have to leave the state,” he said.

With the full cabinet now operational, the Bihar government aims to focus on governance, public welfare, and development initiatives across the state.
