The BJP has questioned the Siddaramaiah government, urging a special assembly session to address the Chinnaswamy stadium stampede incident. The party seeks accountability and a thorough discussion on public safety lapses.
Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly R. Ashoka on Sunday demanded that the government call a special session of the state assembly for three days to discuss the stampede that took place outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium on the evening of June 4 as people are demanding answers.
He reiterated his demand for the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and also announced that all MLAs of his party will donate their one month's salary to the needy relatives of those killed in the accident.
He urged the government to increase the compensation amount to Rs 1 crore if it is not bankrupt.
Ashok said, "The people of the state are raising questions as to whose fault it was? So call a special session of the assembly. There should be a discussion on whose fault it was... there should be a discussion on the violation of laws... whether police permission was taken or not... all these things should be discussed.''
He said that there should also be a discussion about giving compensation. There should also be a discussion about these three investigations - magisterial inquiry (which will be done by the Deputy Commissioner), CID investigation, and a one-member inquiry commission headed by retired High Court judge John Michael D'Cunha.
11 people died in a stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium during the celebration of RCB's victory in Bengaluru. A video of the father of one of the people who lost his life is being circulated. He is seen crying while hugging his son's grave. BT Laxman, father of 21-year-old Bhumik Laxman, who died in the stampede, is seen hugging his son's grave in Hassan district. People present there are trying to console him.
He is seen saying that I also want to stay here. Now I don't want to go anywhere. Karnataka BJP has shared it through its X handle and blamed the Congress-led government for the incident. The internet media post reads, "Can you give back the son to this father who is sitting and crying in front of his son's grave?
