CM Siddaramaiah's Remark on Bangalore Stampede Sparks Controversy
CM Siddaramaiah's comparison of the Bangalore stampede to the Kumbh tragedy has drawn sharp criticism. His statement has triggered a political uproar, with opposition leaders demanding an apology for the insensitive remark.
So far 11 people have died in the stampede outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. At the same time, more than 33 people were injured. CM Siddaramaiah announced that the deceased will get a compensation of 10 lakhs.
Expressing grief over this accident, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said, "We are deeply shocked to hear the news of many people losing their lives and many being seriously injured in the stampede during the celebration of RCB team's victory at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The pain of this tragedy has also destroyed the joy of victory. May the souls of the dead rest in peace and I wish the injured and those undergoing treatment in the hospital a speedy recovery." Our government will not do politics on this: CM Siddaramaiah
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said in the press conference, "I do not want to defend this incident. I say that there was a stampede in Kumbh Mela too. Our government will not do politics on this. I have ordered a magisterial inquiry and given 15 days' time. People also broke the gates of the stadium. There was a stampede. No one expected such a huge crowd. The stadium has a capacity of only 35,000 people, but 2-3 lakh people came.
