Delhi Reorganised into 13 Districts to Streamline Governance

The Delhi government has officially increased the number of revenue districts from 11 to 13, with immediate effect, following a notification issued on Thursday.
Three new districts—Old Delhi, Central North, and Outer North—have been created, while the Shahdara district has been dissolved and its areas merged primarily into North East.
The revamped list includes South East, Old Delhi, North, New Delhi, Central, Central North, South West, Outer North, North West, North East, East, South, and West.
Sub-divisions rise from 33 to 39, each district gaining a mini-secretariat for one-stop services.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta described the overhaul as a "historic step" to eliminate jurisdictional overlaps with MCD zones, NDMC, and Cantonment Board areas, which previously caused delays in services like property registration and grievance redressal.
The BJP-led government, which returned to power in February after 27 years by winning 48 assembly seats, approved the proposal on December 11.
Officials say the changes will enhance coordination, speed up land record management, and ease administrative burdens in densely populated areas.
This marks the first redrawing of Delhi's district map since 2012, when South East and Shahdara were formed.
