Family Rift Deepens as Tej Pratap Backs Rohini, Sparks Protests Outside Rabri Devi’s Patna Residence

A simmering rift within the Lalu Prasad Yadav family erupted into a full-blown political and personal crisis on Monday, with Tej Pratap Yadav publicly siding with his sister Rohini Acharya and accusing aides close to Tejashwi Yadav of mistreating their parents. The dispute triggered protests outside former Chief Minister Rabri Devi’s residence, where supporters demanded the ouster of Tejashwi’s aide Sanjay Yadav.
The confrontation intensified after a post from Tej Pratap’s Janashakti Janata Dal accused “Jaychands within the family” of humiliating their mother. Tej Pratap alleged that Sanjay Yadav and another aide, Rameez, were “mentally torturing” Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to take note.
The sharp escalation followed Rohini Acharya’s emotional claims that she was “thrown out” of her parental home late Saturday night. Speaking to reporters at Patna airport, she alleged that aides had pressured her during a family dispute and that a slipper was raised at her. “My parents were crying. My sisters were crying. I have no family now,” she said.
Rohini also revived an old controversy surrounding Lalu Prasad’s kidney transplant, asserting on social media that she donated her kidney while others “ran away.” She condemned critics who questioned her motives or called her kidney “dirty,” challenging them to donate theirs instead.
By evening, dozens of supporters gathered outside Rabri Devi’s residence, chanting slogans such as “Sanjay Yadav go back to Haryana.” Party insiders said three of Lalu’s daughters Ragini, Rajlakshmi, and Chandaleft for Delhi soon after Rohini, leaving the house largely empty.
Tensions have been building for months, fuelled by Rohini’s criticism of Sanjay Yadav, Tej Pratap’s long-standing hostility toward him, and the rising influence of political strategist Rameez, who faces multiple criminal cases. The rift widened after Tej Pratap’s expulsion earlier this year and his subsequent rebellion in the Bihar elections.
With accusations now spilling into the public domain, the feud threatens to shake the RJD’s internal structure, raising questions about leadership control and the party’s cohesion ahead of future political battles.
