Manish Sisodia’s Sharp Attack on New Bill

Criticizing the new bill, Manish Sisodia questioned its intent, saying if ministers lose posts after arrest, then the PM and CM who sent them to jail should also face punishment.

Three important bills were introduced in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday, in which it has been provided that if the Prime Minister, Chief Minister or Minister is arrested in a serious criminal case and remains in custody for 30 consecutive days, then on the 31st day they will have to step down from their post. The government says that this amendment is being brought so that in future no public representative remains in office while being in jail. It is believed that the case of former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, who was recently jailed in the alleged liquor scam, is its background.

Meanwhile, former Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia has given a big statement regarding this bill. He wrote on X that there should also be a provision in the law that if a minister or Chief Minister goes to jail on false charges and is later acquitted by the court, then the officer who sent him to jail, the agency head and the head of the government at that time - be it the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister - should also be given the same punishment as was decided in that false charge.

Sisodia further said, "Why only for ministers or leaders? If a common man is also sent to jail in a false case, and is later proved innocent, then those who send him to jail should also be punished. In a democracy, it is necessary for the government to have power, but if those who misuse this power are not punished, then this autocratic power will make everyone Ravana." What is the new bill? Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the 'Constitution (130th Amendment) Bill, 2025', 'Governance of Union Territories (Amendment) Bill, 2025' and 'Jammu and Kashmir Reorganization (Amendment) Bill, 2025' in the Lok Sabha amid opposition from the opposition. These bills propose that if the Prime Minister, Union Minister or Chief Minister is arrested in a crime which has a provision of at least five years of imprisonment and is kept in custody for 30 consecutive days, then he will automatically step down from the post.
