Mayawati Holds BSP Meeting in Lucknow to Review UP Poll Preparations

BSP chief Mayawati is reviewing the party’s organisational strength, election preparations and candidate selection with state-level office-bearers and district presidents in Lucknow.

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati is holding a key meeting with senior party office-bearers and district presidents in Lucknow on Monday as the party steps up preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. The meeting is being held at the BSP’s state office on Mall Avenue. The meeting brings together senior state-level functionaries and presidents of all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati is reviewing the progress of organisational work and seeking feedback on the instructions issued during earlier meetings.A key focus is expected to be strengthening the BSP’s organisation at the grassroots and booth levels. The party has been working to expand its organisational network and improve its reach among different sections of society ahead of the Assembly polls. The meeting is also taking place against the backdrop of the BSP’s recent decision to contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Uttarakhand Assembly elections independently, without entering into electoral alliances. Mayawati announced the decision during a review of the party’s organisational position and support base in Punjab last week.In Punjab, Mayawati directed party workers to strengthen the organisation and address shortcomings, particularly at the polling-booth level. She also stressed the need to select candidates who are “hardworking and honest”.In Uttar Pradesh, the Lucknow meeting is also expected to cover candidate selection and election preparedness. Reports from the meeting said Mayawati sought information from district-level leaders about the organisation’s ground-level position and preparations for the polls. The BSP has already begun moving its organisation into election mode, with the party working on strengthening booth committees and identifying potential candidates in several constituencies. The leadership is also looking at expanding the party’s support base beyond its traditional areas of influence. The timing of the meeting is significant as Uttar Pradesh is heading towards another high-stakes Assembly contest in 2027. The BJP, Samajwadi Party and BSP are all intensifying organisational activity well ahead of the election, making booth-level mobilisation and candidate selection important parts of the emerging political contest. For the BSP, the immediate challenge is to convert its organisational restructuring into electoral momentum. Mayawati’s latest meeting is aimed at assessing how much of that groundwork has been completed and setting the party’s next steps for the election campaign.
