Modi Government Extends Toll to Two‑Wheelers; Policy to Begin Soon

The Modi government has announced a major shift in toll policy: two‑wheelers will now be required to pay toll charges on national highways and expressways, ending their previous exemption. The new rule is set to take effect from a yet‑to‑be‑confirmed date after ministries finalize the implementation strategy.

For your information, let us tell you that when you buy two-wheelers, toll tax is collected at that time. In such a situation, when two-wheelers pass through the toll plaza on the national highway, toll tax is not taken from them. Toll tax is collected only from four-wheelers or above on the national highway. According to the new rule, two-wheelers will have to pay toll through FASTag. Whoever violates the rule will have to pay a fine of Rs 2 thousand.

Pass of Rs 3 thousand from August 15
Let us tell you that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari had recently announced a new scheme regarding toll. He had announced the Fastag based annual toll pass scheme. This scheme will start from August 15. This pass is worth Rs 3000 and 200 trips can be made. This scheme will be valid only at the toll plazas of NHAI and NE. This pass will not work at the toll booth under the state highway.

Now the Modi government has given a shock to the two-wheeler drivers by announcing to levy toll tax. This decision of the government is like a big shock for more than 17 crore two-wheeler drivers of the country.
