Nadda Accuses Congress of Undermining Sardar Patel’s Legacy: Security Guard Collapses During Vadodara Sardar Sabha

The ‘Sardar @ 150 National Unity Journey’, launched from Karamsad to mark Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s 150th birth anniversary, reached Vadodara on Saturday, receiving warm welcomes from various communities and religious groups across the city. Addressing the gathering, BJP National President J.P. Nadda alleged that the Congress has “conspired to erase Sardar Patel’s name from history.”

Nadda, along with State BJP President Jagdish Vishwakarma, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, and other senior leaders, joined the Unity March from Atladara Brahmakumari to the Atladara Sardar Sabha venue, where a grand reception awaited them at the Atladara Swaminarayan Temple.

Security Guard Collapses During Nadda’s Speech

A brief moment of concern arose when a security personnel on duty fainted during Nadda’s address. According to officials, he experienced exhaustion after standing for long hours. He was quickly moved for medical attention, restoring order at the venue shortly after.

Piyush Goyal: 'Nation United in Honoring Sardar Patel'

Union Minister Piyush Goyal highlighted the enthusiastic participation from people across the country. He also spoke about the Commonwealth Games set to take place in Ahmedabad, calling it a moment of pride for India and especially for Gujarat.

Goyal criticised the former Congress-led government, claiming Sardar Patel never received the recognition he deserved. He further alleged that even Mahatma Gandhi was not given proper respect.

Nadda: 'Sardar Patel Built the Foundation of a Unified India'

Describing Sardar Patel as a “towering national figure,” Nadda said future generations would remember his role in creating a united and strong India. He traced Patel’s journey from a successful barrister in Ahmedabad to a national leader who gave up personal comfort at Gandhi’s request to serve the country.

Highlighting Patel’s pivotal role in integrating 562 princely states, Nadda said the removal of Article 370 under Prime Minister Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah fulfilled Patel’s vision for a fully integrated India.

‘Congress Tried to Erase Patel From History’

Nadda intensified his criticism of Congress, saying:

  • The party sidelined Patel and even prevented senior leaders from attending his funeral.

  • Attempts were made to keep Patel's role out of history books.

  • Jawaharlal Nehru created complications in Jammu & Kashmir by imposing Article 370.

He asserted that PM Modi restored Patel’s rightful place in national consciousness.

Statue of Unity ‘Symbol of 140 Crore Indians’

Nadda also praised the creation of the Statue of Unity in Kevadia, saying soil was collected from every village in India for its foundation. Standing at 182 meters, it is the world’s tallest statue and a symbol of national pride.

According to Nadda, the statue reflects the spirit, unity, and aspirations of 140 crore Indians, embodying Sardar Patel’s legacy as the architect of modern India.
