Nitish Kumar honours ex-minister Shailesh Kumar: Drapes angavastram on Lalan Singh in Munger

During a one-day programme in Jamalpur, Munger, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar honoured former minister Shailesh Kumar. In a ceremonial gesture, Shailesh Kumar presented an angavastram to the Chief Minister, which Nitish Kumar then draped around his neck. The event has added fresh momentum to local political discussions in Jamalpur.

Shailesh Kumar also offered an angavastram to Union Minister and Munger MP Lalan Singh, who was on stage. However, Lalan Singh placed it on the table instead of wearing it. Later, Shailesh Kumar honoured Samrat Chaudhary with an angavastram as well. In an attempt to bridge the interaction, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar placed his hand on Lalan Singh’s shoulder, urging him to engage with Shailesh Kumar, but Lalan Singh declined and moved ahead.

 

During the program, spectators in the gallery repeatedly chanted “Shailesh Kumar Zindabad”. After the former minister honoured Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on stage, political activity in Jamalpur has noticeably intensified, with locals interpreting the gesture in multiple ways.

Allegations over program snub

Tensions escalated earlier during the Jamalpur Assembly Workers' Conference, when Shailesh Kumar alleged that he was not invited to the event. Adding to the political heat, JDU district president Nachiketa Mandal reportedly took a veiled dig at Shailesh Kumar from the stage, further stirring the local political atmosphere

The race for the JDU ticket in Jamalpur assembly constituency is intensifying ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. JDU district president Nachiketa Mandal has been actively engaging with the public across the region, while former minister Shailesh Kumar is also running his own public outreach campaign, asserting his candidature.
