Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar on Thursday urged voters to reject divisive forces while highlighting his government’s developmental achievements and future employment plans. Addressing public meetings in Kesaria and Pahadpur, East Champaran, Kumar warned against voting for those who, according to him, “created fear and Hindu-Muslim conflicts” before 2005.
“Before 2005, there were no roads, no electricity, no medical care, and no law and order. People were afraid to step out after dark,” he told the crowd in Pahadpur. “Our government changed all that. Bihar now contributes significantly to the country’s progress.”
Kumar announced that his government plans to generate employment worth ₹1 lakh crore over the next five years. “In 2020, we promised 10 lakh jobs. That target has been met, benefiting nearly 50 lakh people. Our next goal is to create jobs for one crore youth,” he said, emphasizing his administration’s focus on economic empowerment.
In Kesaria, the Chief Minister reminded citizens of milestones achieved during his tenure, including 100% rural electrification completed in 2018. He also underlined the state’s initiatives to maintain communal harmony. “We started fencing graveyards in 2006 and extended the same to old Hindu temples in 2016 to prevent disputes,” he noted.
Nitish Kumar placed special emphasis on women’s empowerment, crediting Bihar for leading the way in gender inclusion. “We ensured 50% reservation for women in Panchayati Raj institutions, 35% in the police, and 35% in all government jobs,” he said, adding that the ‘Jeevika’ women’s self-help programme, launched in 2006, has now grown to 1.4 crore members.
Urging women to vote in large numbers, Kumar said their participation would strengthen both democracy and development. The crowd responded with raised hands, signaling strong support for the Chief Minister’s call.
