PM Modi in Mamata's Bastion Today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Durgapur today, the stronghold of West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee. He will inaugurate development projects worth ₹5,000 crore and is expected to kickstart the BJP’s political campaign in the state with this high-profile visit.

PM Modi will be on a visit to Durgapur in West Bengal today (PM Modi Durgapur Visit). Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of various projects worth more than 5 thousand crores in Durgapur. After 45 minutes, in the second program, PM Modi will address the Parivartan Sankalp Sabha at Nehru Stadium in Durgapur. This visit is considered politically important as it is before the "Martyr's Day" of the Trinamool Congress. This rally of PM Modi is taking place a few days before the annual 'Martyr's Day' mega rally of the state's ruling party Trinamool Congress on July 21. Due to this, this meeting has special political significance. This meeting is considered to be the conch shell of political campaign before the West Bengal Assembly elections to be held in 2026.

This is the second visit of the Prime Minister to Bengal in recent times. Earlier, he gave a speech in Alipurduar on 29 May after Operation Sindoor. All eyes will be on the PM's speech in view of the Trinamool Congress' ongoing campaign against the alleged targeting of Bengali migrants in BJP-ruled states.

Important BJP leaders are expected to attend the event, including newly appointed state party president Samik Bhattacharya, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Shubhendu Adhikari and actor-turned-politician Mithun Chakraborty. Former BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh, who has been less visible in party events recently, is also confirmed to be present. BJP leaders and workers are expected to come together and protest tomorrow.

The Prime Minister will inaugurate, launch and lay the foundation stone of several projects in various sectors, with a total value of over Rs 5,000 crore. These initiatives include oil and gas, power, road and rail infrastructure. Prominent among these projects is the laying of the foundation stone of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited's (BPCL) City Gas Distribution (CGD) project in Bankura and Purulia districts, which will entail an investment of about Rs 1,950 crore. The project aims to provide PNG connections to households, businesses and industries, set up CNG retail outlets and generate employment.
