Police Search Messi Event Organiser Shatadru Dutta's Hooghly Home as Vandalism Probe Widens

Kolkata Police raided the Rishra residence of Shatadru Dutta, principal organiser of Lionel Messi's chaotic December 13 event at Yuva Bharati Krirangan, on Friday morning, intensifying scrutiny over alleged financial irregularities and mismanagement.

A team from Bidhannagar South Police, assisted by local officers, conducted a room-by-room search of Dutta's luxurious three-storey Bangur Park home—complete with a swimming pool and football field. Only a domestic help was present; no items were seized.

Investigators declined comment, citing an ongoing probe. Sources say focus centres on potential unaccounted funds in the "GOAT India Tour" event, with two FIRs alleging mismanagement and irregularities nearing ₹100 crore.

The Enforcement Directorate has reportedly registered an ECIR, eyeing ticket sales, VIP passes, and photo-op charges lacking proper records.

Dutta, arrested December 13 at Kolkata airport while attempting to leave, remains in custody. He previously promoted visits by Pelé, Maradona, and Emiliano Martínez.

Police arrested three more suspects—Riju Das, Soumyadeep Das, and Tanmay Dey—Friday, raising the vandalism tally to nine. They face court appearance soon.

The December 13 event spiralled after Messi's brief 20-minute appearance, shielded by VIPs and security, left thousands unable to see him. Frustrated fans vandalised seats, nets, and facilities, hurling bottles and chairs.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ordered a high-level inquiry; a special team continues evidence collection.

With central agencies potentially joining, the case highlights risks in high-profile private events and crowd control lapses at iconic venues.
