Rajguru slams VHP BJP over cow protection: Accuses VHP of misusing religion for political gain

On October 2, during the Dussehra festival's Ravana Dahan program at Race Course in Rajkot, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Dharmendra Bhavani targeted Congress leaders Indranil Rajguru and Jignesh Mevani, saying they should add ‘Khan’ after their names. This statement ignited a political storm in the state.

The controversy has intensified political debates in Rajkot and across Gujarat. Observers are now closely watching how Jignesh Mevani and other political leaders respond to Bhavani’s statements, raising the stakes for both Congress and VHP ahead of upcoming discussions and events.

Senior Gujarat Congress leader and former MLA Indranil Rajguru responded sharply, calling the VHP group “BJP’s B team” and labeling them fake Hindu leaders. He alleged the organization collects donations under the pretext of Hindutva and cow protection but works solely for political gain. Rajguru accused the VHP of targeting specific individuals for political purposes while ignoring similar statements by Prime Minister Modi or RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.

Rajguru also criticized the VHP’s silence on beef exports under the Modi government, highlighting that several Hindu-owned businesses export beef under Muslim names. He claimed the organization uses cow protection as a political tool, collecting donations while ignoring real issues. He further asserted that he had exposed the gang’s hollowness and weakness before the public.

Dharmendra Bhavani had earlier said that if leaders like Rajguru and Mevani truly love Muslims, they should adopt ‘Khan’ in their names. He warned that Muslims spreading anarchy could face police action and urged them to worship in mosques or homes. Bhavani also referenced past communal incidents, including Godhra, cautioning against repeating mistakes that could disrupt law and order.
