Special Intensive Electoral Roll Revision Begins Across Ahmedabad; Over 5,500 BLOs Mobilised to Verify 62 Lakh Voters

The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has begun across Ahmedabad district as part of the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) nationwide exercise to update voter records in 12 states. The drive, launched on November 4, will continue till December 4, covering all 21 Assembly constituencies of the district.

According to official data, 5,525 Booth Level Officers (BLOs) have been deployed to verify details and distribute enumeration forms to 62,59,620 registered voters across Ahmedabad city and district. The SIR process aims to ensure accuracy in voter lists ahead of upcoming elections by verifying entries, removing duplicates, and facilitating new registrations.

District Election Officer and Collector Sujeet Kumar said that adequate measures have been taken to ensure effective implementation of the ECI’s directives. BLOs will visit door-to-door to distribute voter enumeration forms and collect them after four days. “The exercise is crucial for maintaining the integrity of the electoral rolls and ensuring no eligible voter is left out,” he said.

Special arrangements have been made for women, senior citizens, and differently-abled voters. Volunteer groups and local bodies have been roped in to provide assistance and improve accessibility during the verification process.

Among the constituencies, Ghatlodia has thehighest number of voters (4,62,262) followed by Vatva (4,42,425) and Vejalpur (4,24,051). The constituencies of Dariyapur, Asarwa, and Jamalpur-Khadia have comparatively smaller electorates, each under 2.2 lakh voters.

Officials said the revised rolls will be published after due verification and claims and objections processes are completed. The ECI’s revision schedule is being implemented uniformly across all constituencies to ensure a transparent and inclusive voter database for the next electoral cycle.
