Violent Clash Erupts Between BJP, Ex-Mayor’s Supporters in Bhiwandi After Municipal Poll Results

Tensions flared in Bhiwandi on Sunday as supporters of the BJP and the Konark Vikas Aghadi (KVA) engaged in a violent confrontation near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, following the announcement of municipal corporation election results. Reports of stone-pelting and physical assault were received, prompting immediate police intervention.

According to authorities, the clash involved supporters of BJP MLA Mahesh Choughule and KVA leader and former mayor Vilas Patil, leading to heightened unrest in the area. DCP Zone-2 Shashikant Borate stated that police teams reached the site promptly, dispersed the crowds, and restored normalcy. Additional police forces were deployed in the area during the night to maintain law and order.

BJP MLA Mahesh Choughule alleged that KVA supporters had attacked children and pelted stones at his office. “Despite the elections being over, poor children were attacked on Saturday, and two children were beaten around 5 PM on Sunday. My office was also attacked, and police personnel along with my supporters faced assaults,” Choughule said. He added that he had reported the matter at the police station and will await appropriate action.

The clash comes in the wake of the Bhiwandi-Nizampur Municipal Corporation election results, which saw the Congress winning 30 seats, BJP securing 22, and both Shiv Sena and NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) winning 12 seats each. The results triggered tensions between rival supporters, particularly in areas where KVA and BJP influence overlap.

Police confirmed that the situation is now under control and emphasized that preventive measures will remain in place to avoid any further escalation. Investigations into the incidents of stone-pelting, assault on children, and damage to property are underway.

Local residents expressed concern over the rising political violence in the city. “Such incidents disrupt peace and create fear among citizens, especially in densely populated areas,” said one resident, requesting anonymity.

Authorities have urged political parties and their supporters to maintain restraint and resolve differences through legal and peaceful channels. Senior police officials are closely monitoring the situation and coordinating with local administration to ensure safety in sensitive wards.

The Bhiwandi incident underscores the need for tighter security arrangements during post-election periods, as rival factions continue to contest influence in key municipal areas.
