Vivek Agnihotri Seeks Nod for The Bengal Files Screening

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri has appealed to CM Mamata Banerjee, requesting permission for the peaceful screening of his film The Bengal Files.

 
 

Famous Bollywood filmmaker and National Award winning director Vivek Agnihotri is in the news these days for his upcoming film 'The Bengal Files'. Politics has heated up over this film. Based on the true events of Direct Action Day of 1946 and the Noakhali massacre that followed, the film is going to be released in theaters on September 5, but even before its release, the film is being opposed and demands for a ban have started rising. Meanwhile, the film's director Vivek Agnihotri has made a special appeal to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee through a video message.

Let us tell you that Vivek Agnihotri has urged West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee that the state government should not ban the film and allow its peaceful screening. In his video message, the director said- “Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, this video is for you. Our film ‘The Bengal Files’ is being released worldwide, but it is being said that it will be banned in West Bengal. Theatre owners are telling me that there is so much political pressure on them that they are afraid to show the film. Due to this pressure, the trailer of the film was also not shown in theatres on August 16. We tried to show the trailer in a hotel, but the police stopped it.” Vivek Agnihotri urged CM Mamata Banerjee and said, "You have taken an oath to the Constitution of India and have also taken an oath to protect the right of every citizen to express their views.

This film has been approved by the Indian Censor Board (CBFC), which is a part of a government machinery. Therefore, it is your constitutional duty to take responsibility for releasing this film peacefully.
