'Why does Modi not go to Manipur', Congress raises questions on PM's foreign trip; targets G-7 summit
New Delhi
Congress has once again targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not visiting the state yet despite a long period of violent clashes in Manipur.
Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, the party said that Modi has full energy for foreign trips, but no sympathy for Manipur. Congress Communications General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that PM Modi is on his 35th foreign trip after May 2023 but has so far ignored the difficulties of Manipur.
Shortly before PM Modi left for abroad on Sunday morning, Jairam Ramesh issued a statement on behalf of the Congress in an ex-post saying that the Prime Minister is leaving for Cyprus, Canada and Croatia. He said, 'This is PM Modi's 35th foreign trip after May 2023. He has a lot of energy, enthusiasm and excitement i.e. 3E for these visits. But can he also muster the fourth E, empathy, to go to Manipur and see the suffering, pain and tragedy of the people there?'
Jairam claimed that leave alone any leader, the PM has not even met any person from Manipur since May 3, 2023 and this attitude of the Prime Minister towards Manipur is very sad and worrying. Congress had also raised the issue of Manipur's long-standing bad situation and new round of violence last week and accused the Modi government of being insensitive towards the people of the state.

At the same time, commenting on the PM's last-minute Canada visit, Jairam Ramesh said, 'There was a time when the PM used to proudly recite the formula of the algebra of (ab)², citing the example of India-Canada relations, but after that the situation deteriorated badly. When it seemed that Canada was dilly-dallying about inviting India to the G-7 summit, then those beating the drum for them propagated that PM Modi will not go, whether the invitation comes or not. But like always, this time too he was exposed.'
According to the Congress leader, the Canadian Prime Minister said that India has been invited to the G-7 summit because India is the fifth largest economy in the world. Also, taking a jibe, he said that perhaps PM Modi can remind him that according to the CEO of Niti Aayog, India has already become the third largest economy in the world on 24 May 2025.
