Rameez Naemat’s Criminal Past Sparks Fresh Political Storm After Rohini Acharya’s Allegations

Allegations surrounding murder-accused political aide Rameez Naemat have triggered a fresh political row in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, after RJD leader Rohini Acharya publicly named him while announcing her decision to sever ties with her family. The controversy deepened Sunday when Afroz Alam, brother of former Tulsipur Nagar Panchayat chairman Firoz Pappu, accused Rameez of a long record of criminal activity and of creating “rifts in powerful political families.”

Afroz, whose brother was shot dead on 4 January 2022, said Rameez—an accused in the murder case—was currently out on bail and awaited a crucial court ruling on November 20. He alleged that Rameez, son-in-law of former MP Rizwan Zaheer, had “destroyed his own home, my home, and now the Lalu family’s home.” He questioned how senior RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav could “aspire to become Chief Minister while keeping a criminal by his side.”

The controversy began Saturday when Rohini Acharya, daughter of RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, accused Rameez and Tejashwi aide Sanjay Yadav of pressuring her to take responsibility for her family’s electoral setback. In a series of emotional posts, she alleged humiliation, threats, and a breakdown of trust within the family. On Sunday, Rohini clarified that she had cut ties only with her brother, not with her parents or sisters.

Rameez, 38, comes from an influential Balrampur family with political and academic ties. A former cricketer who captained Jharkhand’s Under-22 team, he later moved into political consultancy, gaining proximity to Tejashwi during election campaigns. Police records show 11 criminal cases against him, including charges under the NSA and Gangster Act. In 2023, the administration seized land valued at ₹4.75 crore, alleging it was acquired through illicit income.

As tensions rise within the RJD, Afroz has urged the Bihar government to deny shelter to the accused. The political implications of the dispute are expected to intensify as the murder trial nears its next hearing this week.
