Telugu Hanuman Jayanti: Unique Traditions and Timings That Set It Apart

Unlike other regions where Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated in Chaitra month, Telugu Hanuman Jayanti falls in the month of Vaishakha and lasts for 41 days, culminating on the full moon day. This extended spiritual observance, filled with devotion, fasting, and special rituals, reflects the deep-rooted cultural uniqueness of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.

Telugu Hanuman Jayanti: Hanuman Jayanti will be celebrated with special reverence and devotion by the Telugu community. This festival is celebrated as the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman, but the special thing is that in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana it is celebrated on the Dashami date of Jyeshtha month instead of Chaitra Purnima. This time it is coming on 22 May. This festival is different from the date of North India.

The biggest feature of Telugu Hanuman Jayanti is that it marks the end of 41 days of ritual fasting and meditation, which is called "Hanuman Deeksha". Devotees follow celibacy, restraint and sadhana during this period. With the completion of initiation on May 22, special worship, Abhishek, Hanuman Chalisa and Sunderkand recitation are organized in the temples.

A large number of devotees gather for darshan at Hanuman temples, especially major places like Kushalendra Swamy, Kondapur, Yadadri and Vijayawada. On this occasion, many devotees also do padayatras like Kavad Yatra by wearing 'Hanuman Mala Deeksha'.
