Devotees across India and the world are preparing for one of the most auspicious Hindu festivals – Vivah Panchami, the sacred anniversary of the divine marriage of Lord Rama and Goddess Sita. This year, Vivah Panchami falls on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, and is being observed with exceptional fervor, especially in Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Rama.
Vivah Panchami, celebrated on the fifth day (Panchami tithi) of Shukla Paksha in the Hindu month of Margashirsha, commemorates the heavenly wedding that took place in Janakpur (present-day Nepal) thousands of years ago.
According to the Ramayana, King Janaka’s daughter Sita married Prince Rama of Ayodhya after Lord Rama lifted and broke the divine Shiv Dhanush (Shiva’s bow), fulfilling the condition set for Sita Swayamvar.
In Ayodhya, the newly constructed Ram Janmabhoomi Temple is set to host grand celebrations. The temple administration has announced a special “Ram-Sita Vivah Utsav” that will feature elaborate rituals, including the symbolic re-enactment of the divine wedding.
Thousands of priests, artists, and devotees will participate in the “Ram Vivah Mahotsav” starting early morning on November 25. The highlight will be the beautifully decorated idols of Lord Rama and Sita being taken in a floral palanquin through the streets of Ayodhya.
“Vivah Panchami is not just a festival; it is a celebration of dharma, devotion, and the ideal marriage,” said Acharya Satyendra Das, chief priest of Ram Janmabhoomi. “This year, with the Pran Pratishtha of Ram Lalla completed, the joy in Ayodhya is boundless.”
Meanwhile, in Janakpur, Nepal – the maternal home of Goddess Sita – preparations are in full swing. The famous Janaki Temple will witness the historic Vivah Panchami Mela, where actors dressed as Rama and Sita will perform the wedding ceremony exactly as described in ancient texts. Over 500,000 pilgrims, including many from India, are expected to attend the week-long celebrations.
Across India, temples dedicated to Lord Rama will observe fasting, special pujas, and kalyanotsavam (celestial marriage ceremonies). Devotees believe that worshipping Rama and Sita on Vivah Panchami brings harmony, prosperity, and blessings for marital bliss. Many unmarried women observe a day-long fast seeking a partner like Lord Rama – an embodiment of truth, duty, and compassion.
Spiritual leaders emphasize that Vivah Panchami teaches timeless values. “The marriage of Rama and Sita symbolizes the perfect union of Purusha (consciousness) and Prakriti (nature),” said Swami Avdheshanand Giri. “It reminds couples to uphold commitment, respect, and righteousness in relationships.”
With the rise in digital devotion, millions are expected to participate virtually through live telecasts from Ayodhya and Janakpur. Major channels and OTT platforms have scheduled special broadcasts of Vivah Panchami 2025 celebrations.
As the auspicious day approaches, markets are flooded with wedding-themed Ram-Sita idols, sweets, and decorative items. Devotees are encouraged to recite the Ramcharitmanas, perform Sita-Rama kalyanam at home, and distribute prasad.
This Vivah Panchami holds special significance coming just months after the grand opening of the Ram Mandir, marking a new chapter in India’s spiritual renaissance. For millions, November 25, 2025, will be a day of devotion, joy, and renewed faith in the eternal love story of Rama and Sita.
