Delhi judicial officer suicide reported from Karkardooma area; police begin inquiry as family raises concerns over events preceding the incident

A 30-year-old judicial officer posted in East Delhi was found dead at his residence under what police are treating as a case of suspected suicide, officials said on Saturday. The incident involving a Delhi judicial officer suicide has triggered an investigation, with family members pointing to a domestic dispute shortly before his death.

The deceased, identified as Aman Kumar Sharma, was serving as the full-time Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) at Karkardooma Court. According to preliminary information, he was found hanging in a bathroom, allegedly using his wife’s dupatta.

Late-night distress call

Family members told investigators that Sharma had called his father late on Friday night, around 10 pm, expressing distress. He reportedly said that “living had become difficult,” prompting concern. His father, who was in Alwar at the time, travelled to Delhi and reached the residence around midnight.

Upon arrival, he is said to have witnessed an argument between Sharma and his wife, who is also a judicial officer. According to relatives, tensions appeared high, although the exact nature of the disagreement remains unclear.

Morning incident unfolds

The situation escalated again on Saturday morning, sources familiar with the matter said. Sharma’s father reportedly moved to another room following the argument. After some time, when the house fell unusually quiet, attempts were made to contact Sharma.

His phone was found ringing inside a locked bathroom. When there was no response, a security guard intervened. The door could not be opened, and entry was eventually gained by breaking a window. Sharma was found hanging inside, officials said.

Police begin investigation

The case has been taken up by the Delhi Police, which has initiated an inquest and is examining the circumstances leading to the death. No suicide note has been officially confirmed so far.

“Initial reports indicate it appears to be a case of suicide. However, all angles are being examined,” a senior police officer said, adding that statements from family members and others present in the house are being recorded.

The body has been sent for post-mortem, which is expected to provide further clarity.

Family raises concerns

Relatives have claimed that there had been a serious altercation between Sharma and his wife shortly before the incident. One family member alleged that during the late-night exchange, Sharma’s wife had warned them against intervening and threatened to call the police.

These claims, however, are yet to be independently verified, and officials have cautioned against drawing conclusions until the investigation progresses.

Career and background

Sharma had joined the Delhi Judicial Service in June 2021 and had served in various judicial capacities, including as a Judicial Magistrate First Class and Civil Judge. He was posted as Secretary of the DLSA at Karkardooma Court in October 2025.

A law graduate from Symbiosis Law School, Pune, he was considered a relatively young officer in the judicial system, with colleagues describing him as diligent and committed to his work.

Broader concerns emerge

The Delhi judicial officer suicide has once again brought attention to stress and pressures within the legal profession, though officials have refrained from linking the incident to workplace factors at this stage.

Legal circles in the capital reacted with shock, with some members calling for greater focus on mental well-being among judicial officers and legal practitioners.

Awaiting further clarity

Investigators are expected to review call records, timelines, and other evidence to piece together the sequence of events. The role of any interpersonal issues is also likely to be examined as part of the probe.

For now, authorities have urged restraint, stating that conclusions will only be drawn after a thorough investigation. The Delhi judicial officer suicide case remains under active inquiry, with further details likely to emerge in the coming days.
