Engineer took the path of farming, now selling this fruit for Rs 1800 per kg...became a millionaire!

Vanot, a small village in Savarkundla taluka of Amreli district is in the news these days. The reason is the young farmer of this place, Jentibhai Gediya. Who chose farming despite completing his studies in civil engineering. Even after getting a technical degree, he searched for the future in the soil of the fields and today he is surprising everyone by cultivating a unique fig.

Apart from traditional crops, Jentibhai planted 150 plants of 'Gold Honey Fig' on just 1 bigha of land out of his 18 bigha farm. This variety is different from the common fig and bears fruit seven times every year. Jentibhai says that about 50 kg of fresh fruits come out from each plant, out of which 10 kg of dried figs are prepared. These dried figs are sold in the market for up to Rs 1800 per kg.

Excellent yield in low rainfall area
While South Gujarat and Maharashtra are famous for fig cultivation, fig cultivation in a dry and low rainfall area like Amreli is nothing short of a miracle. But Jentibhai made this farming successful with the right technology, modern methods like drip irrigation and temperature control.
