PM Modi Targets Congress-DMK Ties During Karnataka Visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his Karnataka visit on Sunday, accused the Congress of betraying its long-time ally DMK after political equations changed. The remarks came as the PM began a three-state tour covering Karnataka, Telangana and Gujarat, with multiple infrastructure and public outreach programmes lined up.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp political attack on the Congress while addressing the 45th Foundation Day celebrations of the Art of Living in Bengaluru on Sunday, alleging that the party “stabbed” its ally DMK despite decades of political cooperation.

The Prime Minister began his three-state tour from Karnataka, where he attended events at the Art of Living International Centre on the outskirts of Bengaluru before heading to Telangana later in the day. He is also scheduled to visit Gujarat on Sunday evening and Monday.

Congress-DMK Equation

Referring to Tamil Nadu politics during his address, Modi said the DMK had repeatedly supported the Congress during difficult political phases and played a crucial role in sustaining the UPA government at the Centre before 2014.

According to the Prime Minister, the Congress maintained close ties with the DMK for nearly three decades and benefited from the regional party’s support at several critical moments. However, he claimed that the Congress abandoned the alliance once political circumstances changed.

The remarks are being seen as part of the BJP’s continued efforts to target opposition alliances ahead of upcoming political contests in southern states.

Art of Living Event

The Prime Minister reached Bengaluru around 11 am and participated in the 45th Foundation Day celebrations of the Art of Living organisation. The programme was organised at the Art of Living International Centre to mark the 70th birthday celebrations of spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

During the event, Modi inaugurated a new ‘Dhyana Mandir’ or meditation hall on the campus. He also launched initiatives linked to mental health awareness, rural development and environmental conservation.

Organisers said participants from over 182 countries joined the celebrations, with many attending virtually.

Telangana Projects Launch

After concluding his Bengaluru visit, the Prime Minister was scheduled to travel to Hyderabad around 3 pm for a series of development programmes.

In Telangana, Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects collectively worth around ₹9,400 crore. The projects cover healthcare, highways, industrial development and textiles.

Among the key projects is the inauguration of the Sindhu Hospital, described as a multi-super-speciality cancer care facility. Officials said the hospital is expected to strengthen specialised healthcare infrastructure in the region.

Highway, Industrial Corridor

The Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for the four-laning of the Gudebellur–Mahbubnagar section of NH-167, part of the Hyderabad–Panaji Economic Corridor. The project, estimated at over ₹3,175 crore, is expected to improve connectivity and reduce travel time significantly once completed.

Another major announcement includes the foundation stone for the Zaherabad Industrial Area in Sangareddy district. The project falls under the Hyderabad–Nagpur Industrial Corridor and is being developed through the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme.

Officials said the industrial node is expected to attract manufacturing investments and generate employment opportunities in the region.

PM MITRA Park Focus

A major highlight of the Telangana visit is the inauguration of the PM MITRA Park in Warangal, also referred to as the Kakatiya Mega Textile Park.

Developed at an estimated cost of around ₹1,700 crore, the facility is being presented as India’s first fully operational PM MITRA Park. The Centre says the project is aimed at strengthening the textile manufacturing ecosystem under the “Farm to Fibre to Factory to Fashion to Foreign” model.

The textile park is expected to boost industrial activity and support the state’s textile sector.

Gujarat Visit Next

Later on Sunday evening, Modi will travel to Gujarat and stay overnight in Jamnagar.

On Monday morning, he is scheduled to attend the Somnath Amrit Mahotsav at the Somnath Temple. The Prime Minister will then travel to Vadodara, where he will inaugurate the Sardardham Hostel and address a public gathering.

The two-day tour combines political messaging with infrastructure launches and cultural engagements across southern and western India, with the BJP looking to maintain focus on development projects alongside its outreach in key states.
