Success Story : From Robotics in Germany to Rural Entrepreneurship in India – Now Running a ₹1 Crore Amla-Based Business

In an inspiring tale of ambition, purpose, and homecoming, Ashok Kumawat left behind a high-paying robotics job in Germany to pursue his dream of building something meaningful in his native village in India.

Today, he runs a successful business based on amla (Indian gooseberry) and millets, clocking an impressive annual turnover of over ₹1 crore.

🇩🇪 From Germany to Rajasthan: A Bold Move

Ashok Kumawat, an engineering graduate and a robotics trainer by profession, started his career in Egypt and then moved to Germany. There, he worked for six months earning over ₹2 lakh per month. Despite a comfortable lifestyle, Ashok felt a deep desire to return to India and contribute to his community. He hails from Pali, a village in Rajasthan.

Motivated by the idea of self-reliance and rural development, Ashok returned to India and availed a loan of ₹25 lakh under the Prime Minister’s Self-Employment Scheme to kickstart his entrepreneurial journey.

🌾 From Raw Amla to High-Value Products

Ashok owns 35 bighas of farmland where he cultivates various fruits, including 1,000 amla trees. He identified a golden opportunity post-COVID, when the demand for health-boosting products like amla surged.

Earlier sold at just ₹8–10 per kilo, Ashok began processing raw amla into value-added products that now sell for ₹200–250 per kilo. In 2020, he officially launched his startup focused on amla and millet-based products.

🚀 Rapid Growth and Urban Expansion

Initially, Ashok faced high transportation costs moving goods from his village. To scale operations, he purchased a plot in Jodhpur Industrial Area and installed modern food processing machines. This strategic move transformed his operations and business began to flourish.

In just a few years, his turnover leapt from ₹25 lakh to over ₹1 crore annually.

👥 Job Creation and Community Impact

Ashok currently employs around 25 to 30 people, many of whom are from rural backgrounds. His long-term vision includes expanding product lines, collaborating with local farmers, and empowering village women through employment.

💡 A Role Model for Aspiring Entrepreneurs

Ashok Kumawat’s journey is more than just a success story—it's a blueprint for young Indians seeking to build something impactful rather than chasing conventional career paths. His example shows how traditional knowledge, when paired with modern techniques and a purpose-driven mindset, can lead to sustainable business and social transformation.

Key Takeaways:

  • Left a ₹2 lakh/month job in Germany

  • Started a farm-to-product business in Rajasthan

Ashok Kumawat is not just an entrepreneur—he’s a symbol of the Atmanirbhar Bharat spirit.
