UGC Warns: WhatsApp Harassment Will Be Treated as Ragging

UGC has issued strict guidelines stating that harassment of junior students on platforms like WhatsApp will be considered ragging. Disciplinary action will be taken against those found guilty.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has asked all universities and colleges to strictly implement the guidelines made to make ragging free campuses before the new session begins. UGC has said that harassing juniors on WhatsApp by seniors will also be considered ragging. If this is done, strict action will be taken.

UGC said in its latest directive- "It has been seen in many cases that seniors create informal WhatsApp groups, add juniors to them and then make them victims of mental harassment. This also comes under ragging and disciplinary action will be taken for this."

UGC has also mentioned incidents where juniors were threatened with social boycott if they did not follow seniors' instructions. Students were forced to cut their hair, stay awake for long hours or were verbally abused.
